San Diego Asset Forfeiture Case Results in 75% Recovery

Jun 30 2015, by Jessica McElfresh in Asset Forfeiture, Case Results

A man in his early 20s recently sought out San Diego asset forfeiture attorney Jessica McElfresh to help him with property seized by law enforcement. The young man had been traveling to San Diego from the East Coast. He was searched at the airport in San Diego where $20,000 in cash and a joint were found on his person. Law enforcement seized the $20,000 in absence of any other evidence. When questioned, the client told law enforcement that he was interested in getting into the medical marijuana dispensary industry.

Unfortunately, law enforcement sometimes views large sums of cash and an interest in medical cannabis as suspicious or illegal. Jessica McElfresh was able to protect the client’s rights and begin sourcing defense evidence for the cash. She was able to show the government that most of the money came from the sale of a car by providing a bill of sale, while the majority of the remaining money came from the client’s parents. Ultimately, McElfresh Law, Inc. was able to settle on the client’s behalf outside of court during the initial contesting and was able to recover more than 75 percent of the original sum.

The outcome of an individual case depends on a variety of factors unique to that case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any similar or future case.
