Hit & Run Dismissed After Making Restitution

Dec 28 2018, by Jessica McElfresh in Case Results, Misdemeanor, Traffic Violations

Sometimes, a simple misunderstanding can lead to unexpected criminal charges, and if not handled properly, the effects can seriously complicate your life. For example, a man from out of state was recently on his way home from a casino trip. It was late, and he was tired when he decided to stop for gas. In his weary state, the man neglected to take the gas pump out of his car, and it detached when he tried to leave. Upon first glance, there didn’t seem to be any damage, so he left.

Evidently, the gas hose did need repair, and he was promptly contacted by the gas station. He paid for the damage, but unfortunately, criminal charges were filed against him for leaving the scene of an accident. As a misdemeanor, this exposed him to significant penalties, and he knew that it wasn’t something he could solve on his own. Instead, he contacted attorney McElfresh, who acted fast on his behalf. By explaining the situation and showing that full restitution was already made, attorney McElfresh secured a dismissal, while relieved her client of any additional stress.

The outcome of an individual case depends on a variety of factors unique to that case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any similar or future case.
